We designed our special system to provide you with GPRS-identified digital photos and videos made from a helicopter. The aircraft used is a Bell 206 gas turbine type, seating five. An example of its uses...

...is a digital system for surveying and controlling transmission lines
Videofilm részlet

The recording unit consists of the following parts:

Camera (videos): a mini dv digital recorder. Its resolution is 720 x 576 pixels. It makes continuous recordings.

Digital camera (photos): 2560 x 1920 pixel (5-Megapixel) resolution.

Camera holding device: The device holding the camera is mounted to the bottom of the helicopter in a vibration-proof manner, so that the cabin of the aircraft will not block the line of sight. The device is maneuvered by two control motors in two directions. The motors are controlled by the operator inside. The two cameras are mounted to the holding device side-by-side. They "see" the same sight, but have independent remote controllers for zooming, making pictures and videos, recording sound, etc.

GPS with computer: On board there are: a high resolution LCD tv, a computer, a GPS locator, a microphone, a remote controller, and all the necessary accessories.

Software: We wish to insert the recorded video and audio material into a consistent, user-friendly and well searchable system. To achieve this, we have designed our own software that complements the commercially available programs.

The procedure:
The first step is feeding the coordinates of the object into a special cartographic software. Then we prepare the flight plan, keeping the direction of the Sun and other factors in mind. If the weather is ideal, we take our seats in the helicopter. In our opinion, the crew of the aircraft should consist of:
1. Pilot: his responsibility is to fly the helicopter according to the flight plan.
2. A person familiar with the route: he checks the route, and is in continuous contact with the operator and the pilot for the best coordination. He can also record an audio track.
3. Operator: The operator keeps the cameras on the route by remote control and takes pictures of the desired objects. Our cameras have the special feature of making short audio recordings to go with each photograph.

The completed material can be:

  • Video:
  • we convert the GPRS-identified files to mpeg1, mpeg2, AVI - or other format.
(Further details can be discussed; there are several other options within and beyond these formats.)
  • Photographs:
  • 5-Megapixel jpg, with identification.
The medium can be a DVD or a hard disk.
